OK, judge by its cover
January 1, 2016
We are down to squeezing out the final few typos and inconsistencies in the text. Next step is to
approach a variety of publications about reviews and possibly contributed articles. The process is to contact the editors and then provide what’s called a galley proof or ARC (advanced review copy). It’s a near final version distributed with the understanding it still contains a few bugs. Have you ever wondered how those quoted on the back cover got to read the book? Well, this is how.
Many publishers still like paper copies, but some are fine with pdfs. Typically, the cover is marked to make it clear that it is an ARC. The front is pretty much the real cover, but the back is designed for publications and booksellers, so includes marketing information that won’t end up on the real thing.
Fingers crossed for some good pre-publication ink.
